Halloween Poems for the Classroom

If you are interested in exploiting a transatlantic festival for creative writing stimulus rather than knocks on the door and a perpetuation of childhood tooth decay and obesity, here’s your opportunity.
These Halloween Poems ideas are available to download and use for encouraging classroom creative writing on its theme – and playing with rhyme – with Student and Teacher notes as well as model/guide poems to support the activity.
Originally produced for Teachit English and still there if you are a member and would like to use their simplified presentation, or you can otherwise download from below:
Happy Birthday Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Crane Lifting the Sun

‘two c-words’

Always so pleased to have my poetry up at IT, with thanks, this one here today. I like the surprise also of any illustration that accompanies, and though this isn’t credited, thanks again.
The Crane That Keeps Giving

The crane in my town until recently was dominant in the landscape and therefore inherently photogenic, and for subsequently playing with. I don’t believe I have posted this one. Glad it is now gone, but a vestige of missing.
so, finding
when i am gone
i will be concerned
retrospectively
so-to-speak
though more-so now
~ and this depending ~
on whether you will be able to
find things
like the obvious of
important documents
pension
entitlements
commitments
will
renewals
that which is no longer apt
and the passwords
for every online account
of what we have become
but also the chargers
for the electricals
vacuums
~ upright and hand-held ~
power tools [not that you would use
and not that you can’t]
phones
tablets
then, speaking of tablets, there’s the
medicines
[those that work/ed and perhaps…]
and i have just remembered
so memory will be crucial
the bank account details
savings in your name
accident insurance that could be
so ironic
~ me and ladders ~
the obvious personal things
like photo albums
photos on the computer
letters
old family videos
and you will know where
most are
the record collection
all those books
will need sorting
~ my books are, in two places,
archives of ambition ~
or the so many poems i have written about you and us
not sharing directly
but direct
years of recording and reflecting and
about being as one
about the slowed journey together
or if you found this first
posted here and now for fulfilling
so struck by its pragmatism
and so compelled to find all the others
that are not
so practical
No Entry 2

Stone
This stone
is so hard
I can feel it
hardened
as the stone.
The stone
is so heavy
I can carry it
inside
like a stone.
This
hard
heavy
stone
is such a solid weight
it keeps things from opening
it keeps things down firmly.
This stone
is so silent
I can live it
hearing
as a stone.
